Towards More Sustainable and Intelligent Data Centers: ENEA Adopts TRAKTI for an HPC Digital Twin

on December 15, 2025

Real World Asset (RWA) tokenization typically refers to the digital representation of physical or tangible assets such as real estate, energy, commodities, or infrastructure on blockchain-based systems, enabling traceability, programmability, and new governance models.
With this project, Trakti moves beyond partial or asset-level tokenization and achieves something unprecedented: the tokenization of an entire High Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure.

ENEA: Italy’s Leading National Agency as a Benchmark Case

ENEA, the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development, is the largest public research and innovation agency in Italy operating at the intersection of advanced computing, energy, sustainability, and national strategic assets.
By activating the first tokenized digital twin for an HPC center, ENEA positions itself as a European reference point for the convergence of supercomputing, sustainability, and digital governance.

The initiative covers ENEA’s full HPC ecosystem, including the CRESCO cluster family (CRESCO6, CRESCO7, and the newly deployed CRESCO8), transforming these systems from high-performance computational assets into governed, transparent, and digitally native infrastructures.

Trakti’s Contribution: Tokenizing an Entire Infrastructure

Trakti’s platform enables a paradigm shift in RWA tokenization. Rather than tokenizing isolated components, Trakti has tokenized the full operational infrastructure of an HPC data center, integrating digital twin technology for real-time simulation, prediction, and optimization, blockchain-based infrastructure for immutable data integrity, smart legal contracts to automate governance, allocation, and compliance, and tokenization of resources to represent real, measurable assets on-chain. Through this approach, computational power, memory capacity, and energy consumption are transformed into digital, tokenized units that directly correspond to real-world resources.

What Is Being Tokenized

  • Compute, memory, and energy become tokenized real-world assets that are dynamically allocable and auditable
  • Usage rules, costs, and efficiency incentives are embedded into smart legal contracts with legal validity
  • Operational data, including workloads, energy consumption, and environmental conditions, is recorded on blockchain, ensuring transparency, immutability, and verifiability

This turns the HPC infrastructure into a programmable economic and operational system where governance is enforced by code and aligned with sustainability objectives.

Toward Transparent and Sustainable Data Center Governance

The tokenized digital twin allows ENEA to monitor and optimize performance, energy usage, and environmental impact in real time, while also simulating future scenarios and anticipating inefficiencies or risks.
As a result, the data center evolves from a traditionally opaque and energy-intensive cost center into a transparent, accountable, and sustainability-driven digital infrastructure.

A Replicable Model for Digital and Green Transition

This project represents a reference model for RWA tokenization at infrastructure scale, demonstrating how public and private organizations can adopt blockchain-enabled digital twins to manage complex physical assets more efficiently, transparently, and sustainably.
By combining HPC, digital twins, and tokenization, Trakti and ENEA set a new benchmark for how critical infrastructures can be governed in the era of digital and green transition.
